Purpose-specific Traditional DIY Marquees
by theadmin on Oct.03, 2023, under DIY Marquee
A marquee is undoubtably the smartest event venue. A marquee can be a venue for all reasons, in all seasons which is one of the main reasons why people across the UK choose to invest in a marquee as a solution to their venue or catering needs. What is quite common this time of year, is seasonal weather changes, excellent quality marquees are guaranteed to withstand any weather considerations while being particularly practical for anyone in business and in the market for a purpose-specific Traditional DIY Marquee. Using the DIY Marquee buyers guide along with the interactive planner buyers can experiment with designs and layouts to suit their needs before they put any pennies down. DIY Marquees offer a simple and interesting alternative to the common indoor venues while offering far more flexibility.
The 9x9m traditional DIY marquees, is a highly recommended 4-season marquee which is strong under almost any weather condition. Other aspects which contribute to the strength of DIY Traditional marquees are the high quality PVC material and the use of high-frequency welding to seal the joins, rather than stitching which might lead to unwanted wear and tear of the material should the marquee come under strain. This also contributes to the weather-proofing of the marquees which is ideal for the wet UK climate.
Marquees are adaptable, functional, multi-purpose and can be dressed up or down, depending on the tone of the event. Add a red carpet or a glittering chandelier and your marquee is transformed into a fairy wonderland. Add a heater and some closed panels and your marquee becomes the coziest spot in town during the crisp winter months. Separate your main marquee dining area from the catering area to create separation between preparation areas and serving areas offering a bespoke and unique dining out event. And while the dance floor hots up, caterers can clean away without disturbing the event so that you can party the night away.
DIY marquees offer marquee flooring packages are designed to be an easy lay, upgrading the look and feel of your marquee venue by using a new carpet, available in a variety of party-suitable colours. Wach package comes with a non-breathable underlay, to be placed underneath the carpet to prevent a build-up of condensation during your event since grass gives off water vapour if not covered. Marquee flooring is secured in place with nails which are included in the package.
DIY Marquee carpet packages include:
- One (or more) 2m wide rolls of carpet in red, green or honey beige
- Waterproof underlay (may require folding to fit your size of marquee)
- 6″ nails, hammer, cutting knife and tool belt
- Instructions (as with all DIY Marquee products)
Watch the marquee flooring video to see how easy it is to do.
Other strength enhancing features include eave braces and gable uprights which support the marquee under hard-wearing conditions, ensuring that the DIY marquee and Duracoretex™ PVC are well supported during any event.
It’s nearly The Showman’s Show time again….

It’s nearly The Showman’s Show time again where we grab the slowest moving members of our staff and decamp down to the Newbury Showground for a few days.
We will be in our usual spot halfway down Avenue E on stand number 263 opposite the Arcotherm stand. Come out of the hall and turn right then first left for Avenue E.
For those unaware of The Showman’s Show it is the one trade show where all of the marquee hire industry have a presence. Any supplier serious about supplying the hire industry will have a stand and just about every existing or prospective marquee hirer will come to visit.
This is where you will see new innovations first and create contacts you may use for years.
The marquees we will be exhibiting at The Showman’s Show 2016
At this year’s showman’s show we will have on our stand:
A 4x8m Commercial peaked roof marquee. The peaks add an attractive touch to what is one of the most durable and flexible 4m wide marquees in the industry. We are manufacturing an interior lining for half of the marquee so visitors can see the difference a lining makes.
A 3x4m Deluxe Demi Marquee and our new 3x4m Commercial Demi Marquee: We designed these marquees to butt up against buildings, they give a much larger entrance height and any water falls away from the building eliminating two of the largest issues marquee hire companies have when butting up against buildings. They have also proved popular as standalone market stalls. The popularity of our Deluxe model has encouraged us to produce a similar structure in the slightly lighter Commercial design. Compare for yourself at the show.
A 4x4m pop-up marquee: We only supply the heaviest duty pop-up models (58mm dia. legs), at the show we are including our unique interior lining, compatible with just about any make of pop-up.
A 2x4m Walkway: Our walkways arrive as 2x6m but are modular so can be put up as 2x2m, 2x4m or 2x6m. At the show we’ll be putting it up as 2x4m and again include our interior lining.
We can’t display all of our marquees at the show but by exhibiting the above we are displaying a reasonable selection and illustrating many of the unique structures and accessories we provide suitable for marquee hire companies.

Erecting marquees on hard standing
Our DIY Marquees like most Commercial Marquees for sale are quality ones that can be erected on hard standing. There is the small issue of how to anchor the marquee down (answer: longer tie downs to a nearby soft surface, bolting or use heavy weights) but otherwise it is easily done.
There is one small issue which you should make your customer aware of and that is what happens when it rains. If a patio normally floods in heavy rain, a marquee won’t stop that occurring. If the hard standing has a slope then water may try to flow through the marquee.
The risks of this happening are usually very slight and whilst it’s worth mentioning to customers it’s not worth going overboard or scaremongering about it. If the forecast is bad there are some solutions:
- Wooden floor throughout – this raises the floor up so the water passes under. The best solution but also by far the most expensive and most work.
- sandbags or similar round the perimeter of the marquee.
- strips of carpet underneath the groundbars – this was suggested to me recently by a marquee hire company and I think it’s an excellent and resourceful idea. Strips of old carpet rolled up and then squashed underneath the groundbars cuts out all but torrential rain from making its way in to the marquee.
Read some useful information from DIY Marquees

DIY Marquees commercial marquees for sale have the most useful interesting tips on how to go about erecting a marquee, looking after your marquee and loads of information on general marquee maintenance.
Following (always useful) feedback from customers DIY Marquees have introduced a marquee tool section. This enables them to become more of a one shop stop for start up or existing marquee hire companies.
Keep a look out for further tools which will be added soon.
They are particularly proud of the marquee stake puller that could be a great help when dismantling marquees, unlike most stake pullers it is also very light so fits in nicely with their marquees that pack down to surprisingly small volumes.
Should you require any tools that are not listed please contact DIY Marquees who will design/source them for you.
Have a look at this interesting article I found on HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN YOUR MARQUEE?
The obvious answer is whenever it needs it so maybe a better question would be how often should you expect to clean a marquee.
A marquee is far more likely to get dirty when being erected/dismantled rather than when it is actually up. If you’re careful when erecting and especially when dismantling the marquee then you can usually get away with a thorough clean only once or twice a season.
There are however a few exceptions:
The dirtiest marquee I have ever had was one that was erected under some trees. When it rained all of the dust and grime was washed off the leaves down on to our lovely marquee. If you’ve got to put a marquee up under trees expect to clean it immediately afterwards.
Rain-skirts by their very nature will always get muddy in the rain, these should be given a wipe over on pretty much every job.
Traffic-film – eventually PVC can have a grey layer build up which is especially difficult to remove. It takes a long time for this to happen (a year or two normally) but at this stage it needs a thorough clean using a chemical. The material also needs irritating (gone over with a brush or similar) to get this off. Once thoroughly cleaned the PVC should be as good as new.
Tree sap is a nightmare to remove.
There are also some things that will never come out:
Petrol/Diesel can stain PVC. This will never come out so avoid them at all costs.
Ingrained mould – this affects many marquees especially those that are stored when still wet. PVC is made of many layers, if a marquee is put away wet or if cheap PVC is used then water can get inside the layers and create mould which will never come out. Incidentally this is one of the reasons we use better quality 500gsm PVC than available elsewhere, it takes far longer for the layers to break down in better quality PVC.
Some garden chemicals can stain – I was shown a marquee recently that had green stains around the rain skirt which seemed to have come from a chemical added to the lawn.
Better quality PVC always helps, we use a lacquer coated PVC as it is easier to clean and lasts longer than the cheap alternatives.
